Crystal Overbay is the creative force behind Rustic 509, where each hat is a unique expression of artistry, crafted by hand with meticulous attention to detail.
With a rich artistic background, Crystal attended Bellevue Floral Design Institute and is a certified florist. She has owned and operated her floral design business, Purple Sage Floral Company, for over 30 years. Her artistic journey also includes 30 years as a member of the Columbia River Brush Benders painting group and over 35 years as a certified cake decorator.
The inspiration for Rustic 509 came from a special birthday gift idea for her daughter Kiffen, and what began as a personal project has since flourished into a thriving brand. The name "Rustic 509" was suggested by her husband Kevin, reflecting a local and homegrown spirit. The "509" honors the area where Crystal was born and raised, and "Rustic" evokes the timeless tradition of handcrafted artisanship.
You can find Rustic 509 hats at local markets, craft shows, and artisan fairs. Each piece is a testament to Crystal’s dedication to her craft, blending her extensive artistic experience with a love for creating one-of-a-kind wearable art.

Inspired by a photo I took of Washington’s scenic Highway 20 during a road trip, this design holds a special place in my heart. I was later asked to create and design a tattoo for my soon-to-be son-in-law’s arm, incorporating the beauty of that moment. As I worked on it, I discovered that Highway 20 was part of the route he patrolled, giving the design an even deeper connection. This piece is a blend of personal memories, family ties, and the timeless allure of the open road.
Apple Blossom
The Apple Blossom design is a tribute to where I was born, raised, and continue to call home—Wenatchee, Washington, the heart of apple country. Inspired by the region’s famous orchards and the annual Apple Blossom Festival, this design reflects the beauty and heritage of the place that shaped me. It’s a celebration of community, growth, and the natural charm of Wenatchee, brought to life through art. This piece is as rooted in my story as it is in the orchards of my hometown.
Balsalm
The Balsam design is inspired by the vibrant wildflowers that blanket the Wenatchee Valley, a place I’m lucky to call home. These golden blooms, so full of life, capture the essence of the valley’s natural beauty and the changing seasons. This design celebrates the wild and untamed spirit of the landscape, reflecting the connection between nature and creativity. It’s a tribute to the flowers that make the Wenatchee Valley truly unforgettable.
